Readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine recently named Kiawah Island the #4 island to visit in the world and the #1 resort in the mainland US! For the 20th consecutive year, Charleston was named a Top 10 favorite city, earning the #1 spot in 2011, 2012 and 2013!!
Swim in the calm waters of the Atlantic, body-surf the waves with your boogie-board or simply stroll down Kiawah’s incredible 10-mile-long unspoiled beach from one end to the other. As you walk, watch the seagulls swoop overhead and the pelicans fly in a line or dive for their dinner, giggle at the sandpipers and plovers rushing ahead of you as they skim the surf for tiny morsels, while dolphins splash offshore at sunset.
Biking on Kiawah's bike paths is one of the best ways to tour the island. There is a ten-mile-long paved path that runs the full length of the island and most paths are safely set off the main roads. Kiawah has over 30 miles of paved paths which meander through woods and past lagoons. These are home to alligators, turtles, deer, egrets, herons, and a host of other wading birds and ducks, so bring your camera.
There are five award-winning golf courses on the island, several restaurants with many others located nearby, a park with a nature center, and a general store where you can stock up on items such as milk, eggs, coffee, sweets, newspapers, wines and more. Kiawah Island is only 21 scenic miles south of the city of Charleston, so any other provisions and shopping are readily available within a short drive. Historic Charleston also provides theater, museums, opera, ballet and fine dining. The beauty of Kiawah Island is that it is so near all the amenities of the city, yet is comfortably situated between the surf of the Atlantic Ocean and the sweeping marshes of the mainland.
Other activities on Kiawah Island include fishing, shrimping and crabbing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking. Charter boats are available to book for a day of deep-sea fishing. Beachwalker Park is a public park which offers a wide, sandy beach with lifeguards on duty in summer, dressing areas, outdoor showers, picnic area with grills and a seasonal snack bar. Beachwalker Park beach was just named one of the top ten beaches in the country for the second year in a row by Stephen P. Leatherman, a Florida International University professor dubbed "Dr. Beach," who puts out a list every year as part of the National Healthy Beaches Campaign.

Oyster Roasts at Mingo Point are a Lowcountry tradition. Whether you're a returning guest or a first-time visitor, you'll love the Resort's most popular and longest-running event. Enjoy freshly roasted oysters while watching the sun set on the beautiful Kiawah River. Or, dance under the moonlight to beach, boogie, and blues music. In addition to oysters, guests can enjoy a number of Southern barbecue specialties, a bounty of side dishes, and a full-service cash bar.
